Maths Week 2026 – All About Maths Week for Teachers
Maths Week is an annual event held under the auspices of the New Zealand Association of Mathematics Teachers (NZAMT). It is supported by the Ministry of Education. Maths Week has been held each year since 1998, and so this is its 29th year. In recent years, between 5000 and 6000 teachers have registered for Maths Week, and between 230,000 and 280,000 students have participated in the week. Resources are provided for teachers and students in Maths Week.
Maths Week material is available free and online from the Maths Week website to teachers, students and the public. Teachers who register for Maths Week also have access to answers to questions for the quizzes, and the answers and other notes for the worksheets.
Aims
The aims of Maths Week are:
- to encourage students’ interest in mathematics and statistics
- to give teachers resources that they can use in the classroom, particularly material that requires some research and which may not be readily available to them
- to show the pleasure that mathematics can provide and some of the everyday places where it can be used
- to give teachers material that can provide extension
Registration
Teachers register themselves individually along with the number of students in their class(es). Individual students do not register.
Teachers can register for Maths Week from Monday 22 June (six weeks before it starts). An email reply will be sent acknowledging the registration. On Monday 27 July (two weeks before Maths Week starts) those who have registered will be sent an email asking them to set up an account by creating and entering a username and password. The account for each year’s Maths Week is unique – a new account is set up each year, and those who have registered previously will need to create a new account (although the same username and password used previously may be used again). Those who register on or after 27 August will set up their account at the same time as they register.
Those who have set up an account will be able to log in and access most of the resources, including the teacher versions. Some resources will be able to be accessed before Maths Week starts (see details below).
A “forgot password” facility is available.
Nature of the Resources
Most Maths Week resources are either quizzes or worksheets.
Quizzes have short answer questions or multiple choice questions.
Worksheets provide mathematical activities and questions. They can be downloaded and printed by teachers, but can also be accessed by students from the Maths Week website to save printing them.
Teacher and Student Versions of the Resources
There are two versions of worksheets. The student version has the questions, and the teacher version has any additional notes or explanations that may be helpful and the answers to questions. Teacher versions of the quizzes with the answers are also available. The teacher version of a resource is obtained by logging in on the Maths Week website.
Resource Sets and Days
Except for Power of 2 quizzes, Maths Week resources are written in five sets:
- Set A – primarily for Years 1 and 2
- Set B – primarily for Years 3 and 4
- Set C – primarily for Years 5 and 6
- Set D – primarily for Years 7 and 8
- Set E – primarily for Years 9, 10 and 11
Teachers can use resources from different sets in the same class without any reference to year levels.
Set A worksheets have a Part 1 and a Part 2. Part 1 is designed for students in Years 0 and 1, and Part 2 is designed for students in Years 1 and 2.
Except for the Super Challenge questions, resources are classified by Day – Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4 and Day 5. Naming by day numbers instead of days of the week enables teachers to use the resources on any day and distinguish between them.

Quizzes
The Maths Chaser / Whai Pāngarau
One quiz each for Sets B–E. An in-class activity. The quizzes can be downloaded and printed for teachers to read the questions. PowerPoint versions of the quizzes and links to Google Slides are also available. The Maths Chaser files also contain the answers.
Power of 2 / Mana o 2
One quiz for each of Years 3–5, Years 6–8, Years 9–11 and Family divisions. The questions for each day are based on a theme. Each quiz is completed online. There are te reo Māori versions of these quizzes.
Figuring My Finance / Whakaarohia taku pūtea
These quizzes support financial capability, with one quiz for Set D and two quizzes for Set E. There are two versions of each quiz. One version has multiple choice questions, and the other has the same questions but for written answers (short answer questions). The multiple-choice questions can be answered online. The short answer questions cannot be answered online, but the questions can be printed. PowerPoint slides and Google Slides links for each version are available.
Worksheets
Daily Dollar / Ko te Tāra o te Rā
Worksheets for Sets A–E. A record sheet (Word and spreadsheet versions) for teachers to keep a cumulative class record for this series is available on the Maths Week website with the other Daily Dollar teacher resources.
Survivor Series / Kia Mōrehurehu
Worksheets for in-class tasks for Sets A–E for each day during Maths Week. Each day’s tasks have a theme (the same theme for all levels).
Maths Extra! / Pāngarau Taapiri!
One worksheet on a mathematical topic. Primarily written for Years 9–11 but could be suitable for some in Years 7 and 8.
Others
Super Challenge / Kua takoto te Manuka
One mathematical challenge question each day for Monday–Thursday during Maths Week. Answers are submitted online on the last day of Maths Week. The questions and answers and any other notes are available for teachers on the Tuesday in the week following Maths Week by logging on to the Maths Week website.
Games
Interactive games that students can access on their electronic devices. One new game has been created for Maths Week this year. The other games have been used for some years. They have not been updated because of the ready availability elsewhere of this type of activity.
Availability of Resources
Teachers who have set up a Maths Week account by establishing a username and password will have access to the teacher versions of the worksheets from Monday 27 July to enable them to familiarise themselves with the material before Maths Week starts. They will also have access to the student versions to enable them to be printed in advance.
Students can access the Daily Dollar and Survivor Series worksheets, the Power of 2 and the Figuring My Finance quizzes, the Super Challenge questions and the games on the Maths Week website during Maths Week. Accessing the worksheets online avoids the need for them to be printed.
The material will be available to teachers (by logging in) after Maths Week until the end of the school year.
The answers to the Super Challenge questions will be available from Tuesday 18 August (the Tuesday after the end of Maths Week). Prior access to the questions is not available.
Certificates
Those who answer all questions correctly for a Power of 2 quiz, a Figuring My Finance quiz (online version) and the Super Challenge can print a certificate.
Maths Week Feedback
Teachers are encouraged to provide feedback on Maths Week, and this year can do this during Maths Week, earlier and more simply than in previous years. We value teacher feedback and previous feedback has been used to improve Maths Week.
Survey
Shortly after Maths Week has concluded, teachers will be emailed a link to a survey, and are invited to complete the survey. It should only take a few minutes to do this.
The survey provides valuable feedback about the week – in previous years, a number of the suggestions made have been implemented. The survey is also a requirement of the contract with the Ministry of Education.
Shortly after the last date for survey returns to be made, a summary of the survey results is posted on the Maths Week website.
What’s New for 2026
- The Maths Week website has an enhanced look, while retaining the same basic structure of the last couple of years.
- Teachers can provide feedback more directly during Maths Week this year.
- In previous years, there have been five quizzes supporting financial capability for Set E (with one Set D quiz), with the questions in each Set E quiz on a particular theme. Now that financial mathematics is part of the Mathematics and Statistics curriculum, the Set D quiz will continue but only two Set E quizzes will be available and will have questions of a general nature.
- These quizzes are also now available with written-answer questions as well as the multiple choice option.
- PowerPoint slides and a link for Google Slides for each quiz will also be available.
- A new game is available this year.
